Today's schedule: single practice, 1:30 - 4:00. Odd time, and odd length, but that's what's on the schedule.
Roach clipped: In a bit of a surprise, safety David Roach was cut yesterday in favor of rookie free agent safety Brett Johnson of Cal. Johnson is already on his third team this year, after the Bills and Eggles. And, yes, that would be another free agent profile for my to-do list.
Injury update: Despite the abject panic of SOME people, Rodger Saffold didn't miss a thing yesterday after getting fallen on and slightly injured Monday night. Jacob Bell is back at left guard, so for the FIRST time this summer, the planned opening day offensive line got to practice together as a unit. You have about three weeks to "jell", men.
The list: Victor Adeyanju (knee); Josh Brown (hip); Keenan Burton (knee); James Butler (knee); Kevin Dockery (hip); Dominic Douglas (lih, shoulder); John Greco (pectoreal); Justin King (calf); Brandon McRae (ankle); Jerome Murphy (ankle); Kevin Payne (knee); George Selvie (leg); Kenneth Sims (hamstring).
Selvie and Payne are new injuries from yesterday. Selvie's leg has bothered him for a couple of weeks and he's getting it x-rayed today. Given this team's injury luck, you just know it's a stress fracture.
Craig Dahl was briefly on the list but didn't miss anything yesterday, so off he goes.
Fight club: The inevitable training camp fracases got into full swing yesterday with Gary Gibson taking on Hank Fraley. Steven Jackson mixed it up with Gibson later, and Chris Long and Billy Bajema may still have a beef, as they say. Methinks Gibson got just a little too feisty; Steve Spagnuolo sat him out of the second practice. Probably has something to do with getting in a shoving match with 95% of the team's offensive production.
