Camp news, 8/13

Today's schedule: no practices are scheduled until Monday that are open to the public. There is a whole practice game, though, tomorrow night at the Dome vs. the Vikings. Naturally, I'll be all over that.

Here's the kicker: The team quit screwing around and signed Shaun Suisham to kick until Josh Brown comes back from a hip injury. TE Eric Butler was released. I know I had Suisham on my list of kicking prospects yesterday, but I'm surprised such a veteran kicker is coming on for a supposed 1- or 2-week stint. At a minimum, he's probably the best guy out there to have around in case Brown has any kind of setback. Meanwhile, Butler was reportedly on the shelf the last week with a shoulder problem but no one in the local media bothered to report it until he was cut. Nice. Thanks for that. Well, he's off the injured list now.

Injury list: Kenneth Darby has returned to practice. Cliff Ryan indeed missed limited time yesterday. Jason Smith is likely to play tomorrow night now, which had not been expected. Positive development. Ron Bartell and Bradley Fletcher are not likely for this week but should play next week. The list: C.J. Ah You (lih, hamstring); Jacob Bell (oblique); Josh Brown (hip); James Butler (knee); Bradley Fletcher (knee); Hank Fraley (lih, knee); Brandon Gibson (lih, hamstring); Mardy Gilyard (arm/wrist); John Greco (pectoreal); Marquis Johnson (knee); Justin King (calf); Ryan McKee (lih, back); Kevin Payne (lih, quad); Eugene Sims (lih, hamstring). Good to see this list is finally getting a little under control.
