Rams report, 1/7

* GM watch.
Add two members of the Ttians front office to the Rams' GM candidate list: Lake Dawson and Ruston Webster. If that isn't a sign the Rams think they're getting Jeff Fisher as head coach, I don't know what is.

* Head coach watch.
The Rams approached University of Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian about their head coaching job but he reportedly wasn't interested. What kind of choice was that, anyway? Washington went a big 7-6 this year under Sarkisian - he's 19-19 overall - and they just gave up about a billion points to Baylor in the "Alamo Bowl". Mike Bellotti would have been the the coach from that conference to interview.

Man, if the Rams don't get Jeff Fisher - odds right now are supposedly 50-50 - I fear who they're going to end up with. Ray Horton? Steve Sarkisian?

If it's Marty Mornhinweg, I'm outta here, I can say that.

Peter King reports - again, no one locally capable of digging this information up - that Fisher will be in St. Louis tomorrow to tour Rams Park. King also believes that if money's the key, Stephen Ross is definitely going to outbid Stan Kroenke. We'll see about that - Stan made it happen last year when it looked like getting Josh McDaniels was a good idea. And Howard Balzer has reported for 101.1 ESPN that Fisher is actually on the verge of choosing the Rams, and could do so yet this weekend. That was reported before the news came out that Fisher's visiting Rams Park tomorrow. So maybe local reporters got the scoop for a change.

* Ex-Rams watch.
McDaniels appears to be well on his way to returning to the Patriots as offensive coordinator. They already know he's good with a camera, so he should fit right back in. But talk about failing up. He'll be infinitely better off in Foxborough. With veteran players who already know how to run "his" system, McDaniels won't need to be mentally agile enough to make adjustments he didn't have the sense to make here this past season. And in Bill Belichick he'll be working for a head coach engaged enough in the offense to shoot down egregious mistakes like game plans that involve emptying Steven Jackson out of the backfield all game and telling the defense every time you're passing.

I won't wish McDaniels good luck at New England. He has Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. He doesn't need any.

Steve Spagnuolo has also supposedly already received several offers from other teams. Doesn't he still get paid by the Rams if he doesn't work this coming season?
