Brian Schottenheimer rumored for Rams OC

According to multiple sources, Jeff Fisher is interested in bringing Brian Schottenheimer aboard as the Rams' new offensive coordinator. Um, Jeff, you might not want to lead off with that as your first coaching hire. Catching a guy on the rebound after getting shitcanned by the Jets isn't exactly going to be a great way to move the needle around here.

As Jets offensive coordinator from 2006-2011, Schottenheimer's offense finished 20th or worse in total yards 4 times and 20th or worse in passing yardage 4 times. Last year may have been Schottenheimer's least successful season (hence the firing). The Jets finished 21st in passing, 22nd in rushing, 25th overall.

The Jets were a top-10 rushing team from 2008-10, leading the league in 2009. But Jets fans wanting to run Mark Sanchez out of town after three seasons surely doesn't speak well to BS's ability to develop QBs, a skill the Rams need desperately from their next OC.

Jeff Fisher's in St. Louis because Stan Kroenke met a lot of his demands. One demand Kroenke needs to make in return is that he come up with a hell of a lot better idea for an offensive coordinator. Rams Nation doesn't need Jets fans chuckling at us the way we chuckled at the idea of Pat Shurmur head-coaching the Browns.

Schottenheimer is currently interviewing for the OC job at the University of Alabama. RamView wishes him the best of luck winning that job.

Schottenheimer Sunday morning facts from Jim Thomas:
* Philip Rivers' QB coach his first two seasons.
* Chad Pennington was Comeback Player of the Year while BS was Jets OC in 2006.
* Jets scored over 400 points for the third time in franchise history in 2008.

The Jets were in the top half of the league in scoring three of the last four seasons under Schottenheimer, though '08 was the only year they were in the top 10. 13th the last two seasons. Those and all my other statistics from ProFootballReference.com.
