Jay Glazer reports that the Rams have received permission to interview a member of the Saints' coaching staff. Gregg Williams? Pete Carmichael? No - it's Aaron Kromer, who I believe was Jerry's neighbor on Seinfeld.
Never mind, doesn't look like him at all. Kromer is the Saints' "offensive line / running game coach." He's been mainly an offensive line coach in the NFL since 2000, with stops in Oakland and Tampa Bay. (= Jon Gruden assistant.) The Saints website says, vaguely, that he has developed several Pro Bowl blockers (Carl Nicks, Jermon Bushrod) and is a former offensive lineman himself known for his teaching skills.
First thought: too bad we didn't have this person the last few years instead of Steve Loney.
Second thought: at least has a record of success at his area of expertise and some of the desirable qualities of a head coach.
Third thought: as much NFL head coaching experience as me. And as with Dennis Allen, I see no indication that he's been sought after by any other NFL team.
No offense to coach Kromer, but is Kevin Demoff coming up with coaching candidates by throwing darts at team media guides?
I damn sure hope the Rams get back to interviewing REAL coaching candidates if they don't end up getting Jeff Fisher. What about the Linehan and Spagnuolo experiences is telling anyone still left at Rams Park that coordinators without any head coaching experience are the way for this team to go at this time?
