Rams sign Trevor Laws

The Rams have added another piece to their defensive line with the signing of Trevor Laws. He's 6'1", 304, and was a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2008. He's almost 27.

Scouting reports on Laws say he's shown flashes of disruptiveness in the middle but should be farther along than he is as a player coming into his fifth season. Scouts Inc. grades him as a good backup. Very limited pass rusher who comes off the field on passing downs. Has five career sacks, but four of them came in 2010. Last season he hit his career high in tackles with a mere 25. Good at shutting down the running game, smart, fast, good motor. Short but powerful. Good quickness and quick initial steps. Needs better awareness, better hand use, better pass rush moves.

The Rams will likely still have to use a second- or third-round pick at the defensive tackle position, but Laws gives them needed depth and run-stopping ability in the middle. Should be a positive addition.
