Appearing: Paul Burmeister, Charles
Davis, Jamie Dukes, Michael Lombardi
* Team news:
Dolphins at 8:
Panel unanimously believes if
Miami wants Ryan Tannehill, they're going to have to trade up. Davis
insists the Chiefs and Seahawks are interested, and obviously, the
Browns could take him at #4. Lombardi mentions Philadelphia's
interest as well.
Minnesota at 3:
Vikings are trying to create a
trade market for Tannehill, but if they don't get overwhelmed by an
offer, Matt Kalil will be the best player they can get over Justin
Blackmon or Morris Claiborne. Plus Christian Ponder had to run for
his life all last season.
Tampa Bay at 5:
They're looking at Claiborne,
and have Claiborne's position coach on their staff, but their beat
writer really believes Trent Richardson will be the pick if
available. Greg Schiano is all about running the ball old-school, and
Richardson can catch, play all three downs, and would make LeGarrette
Blount and Josh Freeman better players.
Rams at 6: No
new news here: Jim Thomas says Kalil, Claiborne, Richardson and
Blackmon are all in play. They like Blackmon or, even though they
have Steven Jackson, Richardson over the other two. They'll be happy
with any of the four, though, a big reason they felt comfortable
trading down to 6.
Bears at 19: Tom
Waddell says Michael Floyd dropping would be Chicago's dream
scenario. Thinks they will address defense otherwise; the value will
be better. Whitney Mercilus would be a good fit, or Quinton Coples if
he drops. The panel agrees Chicago should be drafting defense all the
way. Dre Kirkpatrick would be a great fit for what they like to do.
Steelers: They
may not address it early, but the Steelers are going to have to draft
a running back. (Rashard Mendenhall tore an ACL at the end of last season.) Robert Turbin and Bernard Pierce are two power-type
backs who would fit well and would be available in the third round.
* Player news:
Show starts by wasting more time with the Andrew Luck – Robert
Griffin III comparison, with Jamie Dukes and Charles Davis actually
making cases for the Colts taking Griffin. Dukes says Griffin can do
more on the field and will become a playmaker quicker. Davis argues
that Luck's always going to be compared to Peyton Manning, Griffin
would represent a cleaner break with the past, and the team's
completely rebuilding anyway. As the face of the franchise, Griffin
would not suffer from comparisons to Manning as much as Luck would
since he's a much different style of QB. MORE analysis on the two
reveals they're equals as clutch QBs. Brandon Weeden later wins a
discussion of which quarterback is this year's version of Andy
Dalton.
College
Football News' Rich
Cirminiello has Blackmon going to the Rams. A couple of surprises are
the Big Dead taking Michael Floyd, Mark Barron slipping past Dallas
to the Eagles, David DeCastro falling all the way to 18.
Lombardi
calls the Wonderlic a problem-solving test, not an intelligence test,
so he has no qualms at all about Morris Claiborne's reported low
score. Teams will research and interview him thoroughly and have him
take different tests. That'll tell coaches how they need to teach
Claiborne. Some players read well and can solve problems, others do
it a different way.
Asked
who has the best chance to be an impact player as a rookie, though,
Lombardi nominates Nick Perry, Fletcher Cox and even Vinny Curry.
Edge rushers who find the right role right away have the biggest
impact early.
While
continuing to rate Janoris Jenkins the best corner in the draft,
Davis says teams are really
worried about his off-field issues. Thinks he could easily fall out
of the first round as a result. His off-field problems are worse than
Mario Manningham's a couple of years ago, and Manningham fell to the
third round.
