Rams notes, 1/16

* Ah, nothing makes you feel better about the long-term future of your city's football team than the team's owner hobnobbing with the guy trying to buy the company that's going to build a new stadium in L.A. Rams owner Stan Kroenke and Lakers minority owner Patrick Soon-Shiong were recently seen conversing at a Nuggets-Lakers game in Los Angeles. Soon-Shiong, a biotech billionaire, is currently in talks to buy AEG, the company behind the Farmers Field project in Los Angeles. That project is apparently on hold for the next month or so until new ownership is in place.

It's reasonable to figure that rich people tend to hang out around other rich people, and that Stan and Patrick easily could have been talking about basketball. And Rams EVP Kevin Demoff did recently give off positive vibes about the Rams staying in St. Louis in an interview. Darned if the team's owner doesn't give off more negative signs than positive ones, though.

Kroenke will have Los Angeles to dance with for at least another year; it does not appear that any team plans to file with the league in order to move there in 2013.

* Mock draft time! It's that time of year again... already? Mel Kiper's first mock draft is out. He has the Rams drafting Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro at #16 and Alabama OT D.J. Fluker at #22 (sorry, I've thought the Rams had #21 all this time.) #1 overall was Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M. Since I think Kiper projected Janoris Jenkins to the Rams in one of his mocks last year and I ripped him for it, I'll stay mum about Jeff Fisher's career trend of never using a first-round pick on an offensive lineman.
