Rams cuts: Gilyard, Diles, Foster

Rams player cuts revealed on Twitter this morning:

WR Mardy Gilyard
OT Renardo Foster
LB Zach Diles

Gilyard's chances looked promising at the beginning of camp, but he never emerged as a significant threat on returns, and showed poor ball security in the final preseason game.

Diles looked like a very good signing at the time, but it appears he never really got the hang of the Rams' system. Looks like rookie Jabara Williams has made the main roster.

Frankly, Foster is the biggest surprise of these three. He was a pleasant surprise when pressed into action at LT last regular season. It looks like Adam Goldberg is now the left-side backup, Quinn Ojinnaka the right-side backup, and Hank Fraley the backup center. I'm pretty dubious about this setup. Ojinnaka's played well, but Goldberg cannot play LT, and tying up one roster position for backup center just seems like bad roster planning. Fraley clearly can't help at guard based on this preseason's results. I would have kept Foster over Fraley, but the Rams seem more worried about having a "quality" backup at center than they do at left tackle.

With Goldberg AND Fraley making the cut to the second string, well, the first string better stay damn healthy.

Seventeen more moves coming today.
