RamView, 8/13: Camp update

* Injury report following Monday's practice:
Sammy Brown out. After trying to practice Saturday, he is now in a walking boot. The report on him has always been calf injury, but I don't know what kind of calf injury requires a boot. This sounds worse to me. Also:
Jermelle Cudjo out, foot
Terrance Ganaway limited, leg
Matt Giordano out, calf
Sean Hooey out, ankle
Lance Kendricks out, knee
Quinton Pointer, left practice early, illness
Rodger Saffold out, shoulder
Eugene Sims out, unreported

Andrew Helmick and Zac Stacy were full participants and come off the list. I'm eager to see what Helmick can do on the field if he's available for the Green Bay game Saturday night.

* Kellen Clemens is apparently going to be QB2 against the Packers. Jeff Fisher says Clemens and Austin Davis will rotate throughout preseason. Thinking of rotation, I assume this means Shelley Smith will start at LG against Green Bay.

* Player #90! Offensive line injuries have spurred the Rams to fill the last open spot on the roster by signing D.J. Young, a 25-year-old, 6'5", 298-lb tackle. Young was in the Big Dead's camp last season, where he had a shot at a starting job after LT Levi Brown was injured in their third preseason game, but he struggled in pass protection and didn't even make their final roster. My notes say he's a good run-blocker. He's spent time on the Browns' and Jets' practice squads.

* Ex-Ram update: I haven't perused the NFL waiver wire in quite some time but understand that Rokevious Watkins has been picked up by the Chiefs. That's could actually be a pretty solid move for them. It reunites him with Eric Berry, his best friend from high school and maybe someone who can help keep his life and career moving in the right direction.

* The next open practice isn't until 3:30 Thursday. It'll then be quickly followed by one at 11:00 Friday.
