"The St. Louis Rams informed the National Football League today that the
Rams propose to relocate to the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The relocation would be effective for the 2016 NFL League Year."
My response to this terse statement from the Rams today is, of course, a big, fat middle finger. The St. Louis stadium task force's response is much more measured:
"We've anticipated this filing from the Rams for more than a year. It's why we started working in November 2014 to produce
a viable St. Louis stadium proposal for consideration by the Rams and
the National Football League. That proposal was delivered last week to
the NFL and team owners, and we feel extremely confident that it will be
well received as the league weighs its options in the weeks ahead."
The Chargers and Raiders also filed for relocation to Los Angeles today.
The whole matter could be decided as soon as the owners meet in Houston next week. The Los Angeles committee is expected to make a recommendation prior to the owners' meeting.
That committee is:
Clark Hunt (Chiefs)
Robert Kraft (Patriots)
John Mara (Giants)
Bob McNair (Texans)
Jerry Richardson (Panthers)
Art Rooney (Steelers)
From what I know, Kraft, Richardson and Rooney have all been positive toward St. Louis keeping the Rams. Rooney has publicly said, correctly, that Kroenke has met none of the criteria to move the team. Richardson has also sounded very much in STL's corner. Mara's an old-school owner who tends to vote against any franchise move.
I don't know how much Missouri civic duty Hunt feels, but I'm hoping for it. Of course, his motivation would be to vote for the move so he can keep the Governor's Cup forever. Force him to recuse himself!
@JimIrsay is the only tweetable owner I'm aware of without doing much research. If you have time to help support keeping the Rams in St. Louis, consider hitting team and whatever owner Twitter accounts there are out there with respectful requests to vote against allowing the Rams to move.
RamView for yesterday is still only half done; gotta go.
